Abstract (in inglese)
The article examines the legislative implications of the equality of the vote provided by the article 48 of the Italian Constitution. Starting from the reconstruction of the concept of political representation, in a democratic and pluralist state, it aims to verify the meaning of the principle of equality of the vote. First, the article examines the relationship between the principle of equality of vote and the distribution of seats in the constituency and, in particular, the procedures for determining the boundaries of the constituency. Subsequently, the article examines the relationship between the principle of equality of vote and the electoral formula, to try to prove that the principle of equality limits the legislator in choosing the electoral system to be adopted for the election of Parliament, but does not require the adoption of a proportional electoral system.
